Why I am having dandruff?
Dandruff's research study primarily is about yeast-like fungus Malassezia. There are 14 kinds of Malassezia,13 among them are lipid dependent which means they can only live in a lipid-rich( oily/fat) environment.
Thus, oily skin is a good environment for Malassezia fungi.
This does not mean that all owners of the oily scalp will necessarily suffer from dandruff. Because the composition of the human skin flora is also influenced by other factors, for instance, the individual characteristics of the immunity of the barrier and secretory functions of the skin. These factors limit the colonization of the skin by microorganisms and only those of them that are resistant to local immunity have a chance to take a root on the skin. M.globosa and M.restricta are recognized as the culprits of seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. Under certain conditions, fungi become aggressive and begin to destroy the skin barrier. It is suggested to be related to the enzymatic activity of this microorganism which provokes inflammatory processes on the scalp.
Stress is a common cause of disturbance in the protective hydrolipidic mantle of the scalp due to immune system response.
If dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis occurs, it's a good idea to start treatment right away as inflammation caused by its presence may contribute to hair shedding.
